How to create a language version in dotCMS

This guideline shows you how to use the contents, which are already translated to other languages, and make a new language folder for a site in dotCMS.

Note: Before editing the content in a page, please ensure that the content is used only in the page you are editing, otherwise it will be changed for other pages in other sites too.

You can find out how many pages are using the content by checking the References tab when editing the content.

Duplicate language folder

  1. Once the EN version is completed and the contents have been translated by the translation team. You can go into the site and duplicate the EN folder to another language folder. Select a site, then go to Site > Browser > Copy the EN folder

2. Change the folder name to desired language, such as DE.

Replace contents in new pages

In the new language folder which you have just copied, all the pages are copied over. We need to edit those pages, and replace all their contents with the translated ones.

  1. Add the translated content by selecting Reuse option

2. Search and select the right content to add into the page

3. Remove the old EN content from the page
