Address Verification

The Address Verification section

The Address Verification section is the one in which are reported and grouped all orders in which the shipping address has missing information.

The Address Verification section has two main purposes:

  1. Collect and group all orders in which the shipping address has missing/incorrect information and which the Address Validator (Melissa) couldn't verify automatically

  2. Enable users to go through each order to gather info from the customers, about the address, and then correct it from the order page.

Melissa the Address Verifier

eManage CRM is integrated with a third-party company called Melissa.

Melissa is a software that provides address verification services. Consequently, it can verify and correct addresses in several countries around the world, by combining the varied addressing systems internationally, so users can quickly and accurately verify an address in real-time. When customers submit their shipping address, in their orders, Melissa performs advanced lexicon and parsing for each country, returning the address as either:

  • Melissa verifies the address and checks its deliverability.

  • Formatted and standardized to a specific postal authority’s regulations in a mailing label or database storage format.

  • Parsed in separate address fields such as house number, thoroughfare, locality, postal code, etc.

  • Translated the house, apt. number using Google Translator API. In other words, the Address Line 1 like street, road, flat/house n. etc. is already Melissa translating them when orders are coming through with Shipping addresses with Characters different from Latin; such as Arabic, Japanese, etc.

  • For example, for this order, the Address Line 1 was originally like this:

and then Melissa translated it to:

Melissa vs Google Maps

  • Please note that Melissa verifies batches of shipping addresses captured by the system and checks their deliverability, while Google simply checks whether these addresses are valid addresses or not.

  • Melissa returns a score for each address.

Therefore, if the address is in the middle of nowhere, this can lead to some doubt about the deliverability and in that case, it should be sent for manual verification to check the deliverability.

What Melissa does in eManage CRM

Melissa automatically filters and screens all orders and shipping addresses that have been spotted with missing information or incorrect details and rectifies them.

This process is essential, for two reasons:

  1. Orders whose Shipping Address is incomplete or incorrect are not sent to be fulfilled. In other words, they will remain in Paid status until Melissa or a user will update its data.

  2. Melissa decreased the number of human actions on the orders, making the process faster and more effective.

  3. Validate customers' email addresses. Specifically, it validates the email domain, for example, @gmail.com, http://hotmail.com, http://outlook.com, etc.

For CRM instances that don’t have Address Validation Service activated, all orders will be fulfilled even if they have Pending Address Verification.
